Chrome Extensions & Apps

Exploring Extensions & Apps in Chrome

Learning to use extensions and apps can open a whole new world for you! Extensions and apps, along with themes (background designs) and games, can be found in the Chrome Web Store. The features available through Chrome are literally endless.

Chrome Extensions are programs which extend the power of the Chrome browser. The icons for extensions will appear to the right of your Omnibox (URL bar) after they have been installed and can be managed from their own page in your Chrome Settings menu.

Chrome Apps are independent applications which will appear in your Chrome apps launcher and will open in a separate window when activated. Notice that your Chrome Apps Launcher is colorful, while your Google Apps Launcher, which holds the default apps provided by your district account, is black and white.

Below you will find information on:

Below is a copy of an EdTech Google Summit presentation used with permission from Google Education Trainer, Michelle Armstrong, whose information is on the last slide. She does a great job of explaining the difference between Extensions, Chrome Apps, and Google Docs Add-ons and giving a few examples of each. Enjoy!

Screencastify

One of your assessments for this module includes creating a screencast using the Screencastify extension. Below is a video which shows how to use the Screencastify extension once you have added it to Chrome from the Chrome Web Store.

For a list of recommended Chrome Extensions & Apps, I have created an abridged version of an EdTech Nut presentation, as always, used with permission.

This is a rather large file and tends to bog down the site,
