Google Certification
By the time you have completed the modules for this course, you will be mostly prepared for the Google Certified Educator Level 1 exam. The only topics we have not yet covered which are prevalent on the test are Calendars, Google+, and YouTube. Check MLP for separate listings for these modules. We encourage you to take the Google certification exam whenever you feel ready.
Many 2016 participants from this course have already attained certifications!
Below is some information based on what we know of the process, but please keep in mind that Google tends to revamp their programs regularly based on customer feedback.
Google Certification is offered by Google, Inc. for educators who are proficient with Google Apps. Level 1 certification primarily covers the following topics:
- Drive (all components & document types, collaboration, & organization)
- Gmail (professional communication & collaboration)
- Classroom (paperless student learning & creativity)
- Sites (accessibility & facilitation of learning)
- Chrome (features & promotion of digital citizenship)
- Calendars (including tasks/reminders)
- YouTube (including playlists, channels, subscriptions, sharing, & editing)
- Google+ (Communities & Hangouts for a personal learning network)
The Google Training Center provides opportunities for you to learn and practice before taking the exam and states that you will receive credit for completing practice quizzes.
The certification exam has a 3-hour time limit, and you should receive your results almost immediately. The cost is $10 for Level 1, which includes both multiple choice and performance-based tasks. If the exam registration asks for a Trainer ID, please enter Vicki's number: 02630.
Once you have passed the exam, you will receive a PDF certificate and a badge to use in your email signatures, on your website, and anywhere else where you wish to advertise your status as a Google Certified Educator.
Levels of Google certification include:
- Google Certified Educator Level 1
- Google Certified Educator Level 2
- Google for Education Certified Innovator
- Google for Education Certified Trainer
SUSD offers professional development credit (in addition to the hours earned in this class or any other in-district PD) for those who achieve certification.
- Level 1 = 14.5 hours
- Level 2 = 13 additional hours
To submit your request for Google certification PD hours, go to My Learning Plan and submit an out-of-district workshop request for each level you attain. Attach your certificate before submitting.
