Callaway County 4-H

4-H clubs are open to ages 8 to 18. Clubs meet monthly for group activities and club business. Each club elects officers and has an approved adult leader who supervises club activities. Club members also enroll in projects in their areas of interest.

With projects on more than 75 topics, 4-H has something to interest every child. Here are just a few of the opportunities 4-H offers geocaching, robotics, international exchanges, horsemanship, pets, starting a business, arts and crafts, raising animals, woodworking, photography and gardening.

Joining 4-H is as easy as contacting the extension center. A staff member will explain the enrollment process and membership dues. In addition to dues, some projects may require a small investment to get started, and there may be a fee for materials, trips or other activities.

Young people are welcome to join at any time. The 4-H program year runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30. Certain activities may have participation deadlines.

Head Start is a federal program for preschool children from low income families. Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities. Staff assist parents with medical and dental care, provide healthy meals and snacks and supervise children playing indoors and outdoors in a safe setting.

Head Start helps all children succeed. Services are offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. Children in Head Start are between the ages of three and five years old. Services are also available to infants and toddlers with the Early Head Start Program.

More than half of all marriages end in divorce, and the majority of these involve children. Conflict between parents, both before and after a divorce, is associated with many negative outcomes in children. The purpose of this workshop is to help parents learn how to nurture and support their children during and after their divorce.

Focus on Kids satisfies the Missouri law that requires parents who are divorcing to attend an educational parenting program. It is conducted in cooperation with Missouri’s circuit courts.

My Life Clinic offers professional, confidential pregnancy medical and non-medical services at no cost. Services include pregnancy confirmation, limited ultrasounds, pregnancy prevention and termination education, prenatal vitamins, limited STD testing and treatment, and adoption consultations. Appointments may be scheduled for general community resource education and referral. Once you are a client at our clinic, you may access parent mentoring, parenting classes, mom's support group, abortion recovery support program and earn baby bucks to use in our baby boutique. We are available for emergency needs diapers to all members of the community.

Eligibility: There are no limits to who can access services at My Life Clinic. Clients must qualify for limited OB ultrasound and STD testing. This can be done by speaking with our Nurse Manager. The baby boutique carries clothing up to size 24 months.

Services for Independent Living (SIL) is a non-profit Center for Independent Living that promotes independence for persons with disabilities, seniors, and veterans by following the Independent Living Philosophy. We provide five core services: Advocacy, Independent Living Skills, Information & Referral, Peer Support, and Transition.

Our services include: Assistive devices/technology information, demonstration, and technical assistance, a hands-on demonstration center, equipment loans, and ramp installation. Our reutilization program accepts donations of gently used fully functional durable medical equipment.

Youth programs and services for ages 13-32 aids transition into adulthood and is provided in individualized and group settings. Year-round support groups, activities, and classes on pre-employment and work readiness, financial literacy, cooking, healthy relationships, social skills.

Personal Care Services include Consumer-Directed Service: the consumer chooses, hires, and directs their attendant, In-Home Service: the attendant is employed by SIL but the consumer directs their activities. Applications for aides and attendants are continuously accepted.

Aging in Place assists individuals age 55+ to remain active in the community, reduce isolation, and maximize their independence.

Transportation Services provides door-to-door service.

Volunteer services is always accepting individuals to assist in our mission.
