PART B : Temperature Changes

This section of the lab inquiry investigates the use of the PASCO temperature probe.

Enzymes | gcse-revision, biology, cell-activity, proteins-and ...

GOAL : We are learning to set up and use the temperature probe. The main goal is to get a graph of temperature .

1. Open the SparkVue App. This is instructions for the wierless probes.

2. On the computer, open the appropriate graph set up as instructed.

3. Check the hardware set up.  Click on the hardware set up icon

The temperature probe.  It may have appeared automatically.

7. Set up the data table and graph: a. The data table title and graph title , "Time vs. Temperature"

The first column would be  Time ( minutes), second column Temperature ( Celsius)

Graph : Y= the tested variable , so this is temperature.  X = the independent variable, so Time

8. Set up the temperature probe on a heater.  CAUTION: the heaters can burn you! Keep all flammable materials away from the heaters.   (ALTERNATE : USE ICE...it is very simple.  Take a temp with no ice.   Start a second run with ice added...)

Suspend the probe in a 250 mL beaker of 100 mL of water.  The probe should not touch the beaker.

9. Start heating at a low setting and record on the computer .  You should begin generating a graph and data. Increase the setting to "4' for 30 seconds ,  then increase all the way, to show a significant increase in temperature.

10.  Heat for 5 minutes.   Stop, save your data. Transfer it to the Lab Report folder in your shared Google folder or document.
