Mr. Ulmer's BioMedical Technology MAIN PAGE
This is a STEM course which will explore the use of technology , emphasizing lab experiences and focused on DNA and proteins. Some Biotechnology, Histology, Pathology, and Parasitology will be introduced. Medical issues will provide the connections to the applications for the lab activities. The course was developed in consultation with scientists at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, MIT, and Harvard Universities , Physicians from the Reading Hospital's Medical Group; Dr. Ulmer, Wyomissing Pediatrics, Dr. Swiercynski , Pathologist at Reading Hospital, and Dr. Chmielewski, Radiologist at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Cloning tools
These are plates of cloned bacteria, made by students.
We have successfully done genetic engineering many times. Students used EcoR1 and Hind III endonucleases to insert a piece of DNA into a plasmid. The plasmid was added to bacteria which reproduced the inserted gene, cloning the gene.
