..A Quick introduction from Ms. Wiggen about IB & MYP!
This year all of Ms. Wiggen's Science classes (Chemistry & Biology) are credited to the MYP (Middle Years) program that continues from grades 6 through 10. All Frederick Douglass High School students are IB students, however not all IB students are IB Diploma program students. Below is a little bit about the basic terminology you may hear echoing in the hallways at Douglass High School:
IB - International Baccalaureate This is our over-arching school program that focuses on develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. As a school, we are focusing on developing and sharpening 10 attributes for students (sometimes referred to as the IB learner profile, attributes listed below). All Frederick Douglass students are IB learners.
MYP - Middle Years Program (all incoming 9th grade FDHS students) the MYP program is a part of the overarching IB program. The middle years program is the portion of the IB program requires a personal Project.
IB Diploma Program - Students who apply and enter this program are 11th & 12th graders who are seeking an upper level challenge. Students who successfully complete this rigorous, challenging and rewarding program will receive an IB diploma.

These are the ten key attributes internationally chosen that we will develop as life long learners.

All of our students are developing these traits to become life long learners, and purposeful global minded citizens.
