About Density Formula:
Density by definition is a ratio that includes both mass and volume.
How dense something is depends on the space it takes up, and how much material (mass) is inside that space (volume).
This ratio reflected in the formula:
D = m/v
D= density, usually g/L since literally grams is getting divided by milliliters to get this unit
M = mass, usually in grams (g)
V = volume, usually in mililiters (mL)
NOTE some conversion factors:
CC = cubic cm = cm = mL
m3 = meter cubed = 1,000 Liters (L)
Liquids will move in the column according to their relative densities. Liquids (and solids) will move accordingly. If two substances share a density one may be suspended in the other. If a substance's value for density is higher than another substance it will sink, and if the value for density is lower it will float to the top.
Ice has a density of .92g/ml and water has a density of 1.0 g/ml:
Ice floats(.92g/ml) because it is less dense than water (1.0 g/ml).
Finally, if an object has the same density as the liquid, it will float in the center of the liquid.
