Terminology:
Ions - Charged atoms (usually a result because atoms are gaining or losing electrons to get a full octet).
Monatomic Ion - ions with only one type of atom, example: Ca2+
Polyatomic ions can be cations (+) or anions (-)
Polyatomic Ion - ions wiht more than one type of atom example: OH- or NH4+
Poly atomic ions can be cations (+) or anions (-)
Transition metals (middle block of elements) - these get roman numerals
Valence Electrons - outermost electrons:
