99.999% of all organisms here on earth are made up of carbon. That means that we are all organic organisms. This includes the food we eat, plants, fungus, and bacteria. For this reason carbon is very important to ecologists.
A lot of carbon is found in our atmosphere as a gas in the form of carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. A greenhouse gas increases the temperature of the earth by acting like glass in a window: heat and light enter but then get trapped which in turn, increases the global temperature.
Vocabulary:
Organic - contains Carbon
Inorganic - does not contain carbon.
Greenhouse Gas - Traps warmth and increases the temperature of the earth.
