9/9 Why learn prepositions?
Respond to letters
IN: Explain how you get paid for going to school.
- Fill in table of contents in INB on prepositions.
- Monday get to know you activity.

- Working in pairs, each partner write 10 prepositions in the middle column of your notebook.
- In your right-hand column, write a paragraph with 7-9 sentences. Each sentence will start with "The mouse ran," followed by a noun to finish the prepositional phrase; the noun is the object of the preposition (circle the object of the preposition).
- Get IXL login to students while they are writing their paragraphs.

OUT: How do you feel about your ability to identify prepositions? What process did your brain go through to learn?

IN: In your own words, write a definition of preposition and the definition of the object of the preposition.
- Four corners activity. Four teams make lists of as many prepositions as possible.

9/11 ER How do I use prepositional phrases in my writing?
IN: What are the seven FANBOYS (coordinating conjunctions)? What are conjunctions used for?
- Conjunctions and prepositions game. Teams write as many prepositional phrases as possible, and up to 7 different coordinating conjunctions, on sticky notes and try to get them into the corresponding bin. Write your team # (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6) on your sticky note to identify which team came up with the most! No repeats within your team.
- Working with a partner complete 5 on your iPad and 5 on your partners iPad IXL 3rd grade PP.2-3. If you get one wrong, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and write the explanation of what was wrong in the middle column of your notebook.
- Students write a 7-9 sentence paragraph with each sentence starting with "The bird flew."
- Students turn the paragraph into one long elegant sentence.
OUT: Summarize today's learning being as specific as possible; next, fill in the inside front cover table of contents (conjunctions and prepositions).
Make-up work: List the seven coordinating conjunctions, write a 7-9 sentence paragraph using prepositional phrases--each sentence in the paragraph starts with "The mouse ran," and circle the object of the preposition. Then, turn the paragraph into one long elegant sentence using this handout.
