IN: Compare and Contrast elaboration in two argumentative body paragraphs

  • Presentation
  • Write a persuasive thesis statement on the issue of homework. Should there be homework? (think/pair/share)
  • Write the rest of the outline for/against homework.
  • Use one of the following quotes three ways (comma, "that," and colon - R6) "60% of high school students who complete their homework do better on tests" or "60% of elementary students who complete their homework show no improvement on tests." Both quotes come from an article by Robin Frese about the debate over homework called "Homework Has a Bad Reputation."

OUT: Preview of argumentative prompt (take scoring rubric out of notebook to put with prompt)

MAKE UP WORK: Write a persuasive outline for/against homework. Integrate one of the quotes from above in the 3 ways that we learned to integrate TLQs. You can submit the notes (include the IN and OUT) to my in-box. Please make sure the date of the absence is identified on the make-up work.
