Purpose of Interview Rating Matrix
Rating Matrices are a tool commonly used in government employment to compare an interviewee's qualifications and responses to interview questions against critical success factors to determine which interviewee is best-qualified for a job. Each interviewee is rated against the same objective criteria and the interviewee with the highest score is considered for the job.
Standard interview questions help elicit information to used to rate the interviewee.
Guidelines for Using the Interview Rating Matrix
All candidates interviewed must be rated on the matrix.
Use one matrix for the same position across all locations.
Use the same matrix until it expires.
Matrices expire 90 days after the latter of:
An employee is hired.
The date the last candidate is interviewed.
The date the last candidate is rated.
Instructions for Preparing the Interview Rating Matrix
Download the matrix template and save it to your own drive or folder using the naming convention "XXX Rating Matrix - m/d/yyyy" (where "XXX" is the code for the position posted and m/d/yyyy is the most recent date you update it)
Edit the file you downloaded and saved.
Replace "Classification Title" with the title of the position (e.g. "Case Manager" or "Clinic RN")
Replace "Program" with the program only if the position is program-specific (e.g. Health Educator HIV/AIDS Housing; otherwise delete the word "Program.")
Replace "Fname Lname, Title" with the name and title of the person(s) completing the matrix.
Replace "m/d/yyyy" with the date you are sending the matrix to Human Resources.
Replace Fname# Lname# with the name of each interviewee.
Assign numerical ratings in the intersecting cells for each interviewee.
Explain your ratings for each interviewee in the intersecting cell of the "Explanation" section at the bottom of the matrix.
Email the file to hr@nkyhealth.org with either of the following notes:
Move foward with the top scoring applicant with a hire date ASAP (or m/d/yyyy if you want to delay).
Archive only - do not move forward at this time.
