DESIGN TECHNOLOGY: 

Code: 10 TDN

This is a design and manufacture course where students will become familiar with using a wide range of materials including wood, metals, and plastics

You will continue to grow in confidence using a range of workshop tools and machinery to manufacture a range of products. Students will also continue to develop their skills using smart technology such as the 3D printers and the laser cutter as well as having the opportunity to explore the digital space through the use of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and microbit robotics. 

Technology challenges students to work creatively and analytically to identify, trial and evaluate potential solutions, and to put their ideas into practice. 

This is a recommended preparatory course for Year 11 Design Technology and/or Construction Trades.

DESIGN & VISUAL COMMUNICATION:

This is a creative course which covers a broad range of design, drawing and technical graphic skills. 

Students will develop a range of sketching skills both in 2D and 3D to develop designs for a range of products and architectural spaces such as tiny homes and Pixel Computer Characters. 

Students will also have the opportunity to develop their skills in the digital world through using Sketchup and Laserworks as well as having the opportunity to use our Makerspace where applicable.

This is a recommended preparatory course for Year 11 Design & Visual Communication.

COURSE CONTRIBUTION: $10 for materials, $40 graphics pack

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES: 

Code: 10TCD

This course provides students with the opportunity to explore a range of computer science, digital programming and computational thinking related content and will develop students’ essential subject knowledge and skill levels.  Students will explore a range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths contexts and will utilise their new digital knowledge to solve real world problems. They will develop algorithms, databases and digital outcomes as well as learning how computers work using binary and networking. 

This is a recommended preparatory course for Year 11 Digital Technology

FASHION AND TEXTILES

With a balance of fashion design and practical soft technology skills, our program gives you the opportunity to explore your design identity and bring your design ideas to life! You will complete two units. Fashion Fundamentals aims to equip you with the foundational skills that you need to create a fashion outcome and covers Pattern Drafting, Construction and Applied Design.
Our second unit, Nā wai ōku kākahu i hanga? is situated in the context of the Fashion Revolution, a global movement calling for a fair, safe, clean and transparent fashion industry. You have the opportunity to take a more ethical approach to consumption by creating your own fashion garment. 

This course leads into Fashion Technology Year 11. Studying design with an emphasis on fashion will prepare you for a broad range of opportunities and roles in the creation and sale of clothing, or other design-related careers.

FOOD AND NUTRITION


Code: 10 TFN

Are you interested in learning about food and developing your food literacy skills? 

In this course, ākonga will develop their food safety, cookery, nutrition knowledge and skills as they work to explore food and nutrition issues affecting New Zealand society. 


Topics include:  understanding the factors that influence food choices, teenage nutrition for well-being and practical design challenges involving the creation of a range of health-enhancing food products. 


Learners will have opportunities to: problem-solve, work both independently and with others, be creative, innovative and resourceful and to follow sustainable food practices.

This course is useful for Year 11 Food and Nutrition.
