Mathematics

Full Year Courses

MATHEMATICS WITH CALCULUS:

NCEA Level 2 CODE: 2MAX

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:  NCEA Level 1 14 credits from 1MAT demonstrating a sound understanding of the material taught in that course including achievement in standards 1.1 (91026-number) and 1.4 (91029-linear algebra), preferably at Merit level or higher AND meet the standard required in the algebra skills test AND attempted both externals (chance and data, and geometric reasoning).

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course is designed to develop students’ mathematical reasoning through algebra, geometry and statistics.  The work covered will include algebraic processes, modelling with graphs, calculus, trigonometry, statistical processes and probability.

ASSESSMENT:  Level 2 Achievement Standards - 6 credits internally assessed, 13 credits externally assessed

COURSE RESOURCES:  A graphics calculator is essential for this learning programme; it is a disadvantage in NCEA assessments not to have one.  It is important that the calculator meets NZQA standards so before purchasing you should check that it is acceptable. A device that can use an online statistical analysis package is also required. Other revision resources will be made available through the school.

COURSE CONTRIBUTION: Nil

NEXT STEP:  Mathematics: 3MAC, 3MAS or 3MAT.  You can take more than one of these courses; however, you can not do both 3MAS and 3MAT.
