6.  Year 11

In Year 11, students get to choose a range of subjects with a variety of semester or full year courses. 

Mathematics, English and Te Reo Māori are the only subjects offering NCEA credits. This is to give a practice to ākonga for Achievement Standards (internals or externals examination) as well as gaining literacy and/or numeracy co-requisites. 

The other subjects will have a maximum of 4  internal assessments designed by teachers at Newlands College.  All subjects are preparing our ākonga  to be successful at NCEA level 2 in Year 12. 

Science is highly recommended but not compulsory.

Students should select one of the following combinations:

5 Full Year Courses and 2 Semester Courses

4 Full Year Courses and 4 Semester Courses

3 Full Year Courses and 6 Semester Courses

2 Full Year Courses and 8 Semester Courses

In Year 11,  students must take 2 semesters of English and 1 full year Mathematics course. Science is highly recommended.
