ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:  Must have studied 10MAO 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  The students will learn the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in order to communicate in the Maori language.  Important aspects of culture and protocol will be taught.  The student will develop through speaking and writing tasks.  A variety of teaching strategies are used to develop skills. 

Assessment:

Te tautohu i ētahi pānga o mua ki te mauri ora o te reo (Internal) 6 Credits

Te tautohu i ētahi mātāpono Māori kei roto i te reo (external) 4 Credits

By offering these NCEA assessments students get an experience of NCEA, these standards also offer an alternative pathway to Level 1 Literacy.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Experience in kapa haka/performance is essential or an eagerness for performance. 

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Do you love to perform Kapa Haka? Do you love learning waiata, hitori and purakau? In this course students will have the opportunity to discover, identify, access and explore foundational knowledge and ideas in and about Te Ao Haka. Throughout the year you will explore key features of Te Ao Haka, perform a Te Ao Haka item (as a whole class) and demonstrate understanding of categories and elements within Te Ao Haka.
