ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Good overall achievement in Year 11 Māori. Entry may be at the discretion of the HOD.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students will develop the four language skills to build upon the knowledge learnt in NCEA Level 1. Important aspects of culture and protocol will be continued. Communicative language activities are an integral part of this course. A variety of teaching strategies are used to develop skills.
ASSESSMENT: Level 2 Achievement Standards - students will complete two of the internal standards offered. *The tuhi internal is compulsory.
COURSE CONTRIBUTION: It is an advantage to have your own Māori-English, English-Māori dictionary. Alternatively, there is the free online Te Aka Māori Dictionary.

TE AO HAKA:
CODE: 2TAH (first half semester)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No prescribed entry requirements. However, prior knowledge of Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga & Kapa Haka beneficial.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: “Nāu te rourou nāku te rourou ka ora ai te iwi - with your food basket and my food basket, the people will thrive.” Students will gain an in-depth knowledge of Te Ao Haka - The world of Haka & Tikanga Māori. This semester course will focus on performing an item & responding to a performance.
ASSESSMENT: 10 Level 2 Achievement Standards - 6 internally assessed, 4 externally assessed
Please note that the new standards are achievement standards which are significantly different to previous years. Students will have the opportunity to gain university entrance through Te Ao Haka.
