ART: 

Code: 10 ART

Students will develop a variety of artworks using different techniques, materials and concepts. This may include drawing, painting, printmaking and poster design. Students get more time to complete artwork to a higher level than Year 9. The course aims to teach technical skills using a variety of media, developing ideas, understanding basic art theory and understanding of different artist models. The Year 10 course approach is designed to prepare students who wish to take Art at a Senior level. (Full Year 1APA and/ or 1APD courses  OR two-semester courses (Art Drawing, Art Claymation)) in the following year. A positive attitude and enthusiasm are needed. 

COURSE CONTRIBUTION: $35 for materials including paint, paper, woodblocks etc.  A personal sketchbook is required.

DRAMA: 

Code: 10 DRA

Students will develop skills in basic techniques of voice, body, space and gesture. There is an emphasis on devising and performing from the students’ own experience as well as exploring either Greek theatre or Commedia Dell'arte and performing some scripts.  Co-operation and confidence are important skills that are encouraged and developed during lessons. There are some optional theatre trips that will be offered to the students for them to experience if they wish.

MUSIC STUDIES:  

Code: 10 MUS

Students will continue to develop a range of skills encompassing group and solo performance, music literacy and music history.  Students must be committed to learning a musical instrument or vocal studies, either with a private tutor or through the School Itinerant Music Scheme.  The course is predominantly practical-based, where students learn to perform in a group and/or as soloists. More advanced students may be able to attempt NCEA  Achievement Standards in Music pending prior discussions with the Head of Music.

COURSE CONTRIBUTION:  Up to $75 for instrumental/vocation tuition, unless privately arranged.

MUSIC TECHNOLOGY:  

Code: 10 MUT

Students will develop skills in Music composition/writing and lyric writing. No prior knowledge of music is required but is preferable. The course follows on from Yr 9 Music, and students will develop their skills using Digital Audio Workstations like SoundTrap and GarageBand and also explore the craft of song and poetry writing. This is a hands-on course with students learning to build confidence in their work and work in groups. In addition to this course, students will have some opportunities to perform, use recording gear and learn some music literacy. This course will be timetabled in the second half of the year and can be taken in conjunction with 10MUS, which will be in the first half of the year.
