TE REO MĀORI:

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:  NCEA Level 2 14 credits 2MAO

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Students will develop their Te Reo Maori skills to build upon knowledge gained through NCEA Level 2.  Communicative language activities are an integral part of this course.  A variety of teaching strategies are used to develop skills.

ASSESSMENT:  Level 3 Achievement Standards - 10 credits internally assessed, 12 credits externally assessed

TE AO HAKA (not available 2024) : 

NCEA Level 3 CODE: 3TAH

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 2TAH. Prior knowledge of Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga & Kapa Haka is also beneficial.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: “Toitu te kupu, toitu te mana, toitu te whenua” - Hold fast to Māori culture, without language, without mana and without land, the essence  of Māori will be lost.” Students will refine their analysis of Te Ao Haka and their skills in performance. They will be able to effectively express narrative and embody their performance. The first half of the year will focus on a personal learning journey and performance within Te Ao Haka. The second half of the year wil focus on a key role within Te Ao Haka.

ASSESSMENT: 20 Level 3 Achievement Standards - 10 internally assessed, 10 externally assessed

Please note that the new standards are achievement standards which are significantly different to previous years. Students will have the opportunity to gain university entrance through Te Ao Haka.
