The UK Power Networks own and maintain electricity cables and lines across London, the South East and East of England i.e. making sure your lights stay on. They maintain and upgrade power equipment as well as physically move and connect new electricity cables.
The electricity supplier is the company you choose to buy your electricity from, and who you pay your bills to. If you look on your bill - part of what you pay is given to UK Power Networks for running and maintaining the power cables in your area.
They are also are the people to contact if there is a power cut (by calling 105), you need a new power supply or need any maintenance carried out near or on overhead power lines.
The Priority Services Register
If you live in London, East or South East of England and you are on the priority register, you will be supported first by the UK Power Networks if there is a power cut. You will get a helpline number open 24 hours a day, a special team to support you and in certain cases alternative accommodation and transport to this can be provided.
