As with much of my writing, when I was asked to post my first blog, I sat in front of my screen and went completely blank! Although a little predictable, I thought I would comment on my MyBnk existence so far!
It has been an exciting first couple of months for me. Travelling to London to meet the team, studying for my CSK, learning a new subject area, learning new workshops, networking with multiple agencies and delivering my first few sessions! My brain is buzzing and I feel excited about working with young people again!
I have to mention here a big thank you to everyone. I have been made to feel so welcome and the support that has been shown to me by everyone at Mybnk has been amazing. I feel I have begun a nomadic lifestyle down here in the south but people are always on hand to talk to and give advice.
The call went out to all my contacts and the response was pretty swift. Schools and youth organisations were quick to get in touch and enquire about what we were offering. The buzz has begun and long may it continue. It is obvious people already see the worth in what MyBnk can offer to young people.
After all my training I was ready to deliver and was so pleased that I was presented with a chance so swiftly at a local secondary. The morning of the session I was pumped. I had been practising the content and donned my MyBnk T-shirt proudly. Bring it on!
Half way through the session I was in full flow when a member of staff walked slowly behind me and started to lock the doors of the room. I carried on regardless as the staff at the back of the room urged me to keep going. Then came the sirens...
The students gradually got out of their seats and migrated to the windows where they observed two police cars pull into the school grounds! It took a little while but we got them back on track and fully engaged again.
Turns out someone wielding a knife had come on to school grounds to attack another student! Come on! First session people!!
Despite this, I am really enjoying myself and it feels good to be part of a great team delivering valuable skills to young people. In the words of Delia Smith... 'Lets be avin ya Southampton!'
