Jubilant Johnny

Last week I went along to observe Johnny deliver Money Works to a group of care leavers in Hammersmith. I haven’t delivered Money Works yet so I thought it would be good to see how someone else delivers it and then adapt it to my own personal style. Johnny was great at keeping the pace moving and making jokes along the way! It was perhaps more challenging as there was no TV/screen, just a flip chart. I thought it would be good to share something which I thought worked particularly well for after lunch, a time when there is usually a slump (for both the young people and the trainer!). Johnny set up a debate between two groups of young people using the controversial statements and allowed them time to come up with points to present. They were already quite loud characters so it worked well but when they struggled with points in the argument for, he encouraged them to do a little role play and imagine the sort of people who may think that way, to adopt some of their thoughts and also to use some of their gestures *wagging finger*. They really got in to it and it suited the age group as they were more aware of the kind of opinions some members of society have.
