Re-cap on P45s
Your P45 shows how much tax you've paid on your salary so far in the tax. It has four components. Your employer sends part 1 HRMC, You give parts 2 and 3 to your new employer and you keep part 1A for yourself. Here is a rhyme to help you remember:
I just quit my job and took my P45 in glee,
My old boss sent part 1 to HRMC,
My next employer will get parts 2 and 3,
But part 1A is special and its only for me
