NORTH KOREA - CRISIS

In response to the recent ballistic missile tests done by the North Korean military, 72 hours ago the United States Navy moved a strike team towards the Korean Peninsula. The strike consists of a carrier, the USS Vinson, which would easily be able to target North Korean bases.

However, North Korean navy launched submarines in response to what they called "Unacceptable act of aggression from the monstrous US empire."

Reports emerged two hours ago, that US radar had detected three torpedoes being launched at the US destroyer, USS Wayne Meyer. Initial reports suggested that these torpedos had missed the destroyer. However, the captain of the destroyer returned fire, claiming that one of the torpedos had hit his ship. The Naval Admirals, responding to anger from the Whitehouse that this may have escalated the situation, claim the ship's captain acted without orders and that in fact, the ship was NOT struck by any of the North Korean torpedoes.

Nevertheless, 15 hours ago the North Koreans launched a second strike causing it to sink. 88 American soldiers are killed during the attack.

An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council is called. China made it clear they support the North Korean strike. Although they object to the U.S. strike force, Russia does not support the North Korean action. South Korea agrees with the U.S. presence but is concerned with the potential threats it may cause to their citizens.

The People’s Republic of China has instructed the United States to leave the Korean peninsula to try and reduce the tension within the region. They have also urged North Korea to cease their missile program.

Additionally, many people fear that US attacks on North Korean soil would endanger the South Korean populace, many of whom would be easy targets for missile retaliation from the North.

The United Nations has instructed the United States not to react to this attack - in an effort to avoid a nuclear war. Rather, the UN has called upon both sides to de escalate the situation, but many US officials feel that the attack on US forces cannot go unanswered, and have suggested carrying out attacks on the North Korean military.
