Introduction to a Study of Current Events

DUE Friday September 4th

• 1. Choose an INTERNATIONAL CURRENT EVENT

     1. What qualifies as an international current event?

     2. international current events are any events that are in the news on the day you are searching/reading. These stories have a significant connection to events or issues in countries other than the US.

     3. international current events can involve the US and US foreign policy, however avoid stories that are specifically about issues exclusive to the US.

        1. Examples of acceptable INTERNATIONAL CURRENT EVENTS:

           1. “Pakistani Officials go on High Alert as They Search for Islamic Militants”

           2. “NATO Meeting Warns of Tension Between the West and Russia”

        2. Examples of NOT acceptable CURRENT EVENTS:

• • • • 1. “Former New York Mayor Goes Back to Work at his News Service”

        2. “President Obama Under Fire for Pentagon Leaks”

• 2. Read 3 Articles from 3 Different Sources

• • 1. Each of your 3 articles should be on the same current events news story.

       1. You must find 3 different stories from 3 different sources.

       2. Sources can be from print OR on-line.

• 3. Bring in a copy all three articles OR submit links to each article to Ms Anderson's e-mail address janderson@mcpasd.k12.wi.us 

• • 1. Come to the next class prepared to share the similarities and differences between the way the story is covered in each of the sources.

• 4. Come to class prepared to write a summary of your stories and discuss them in our next class.

1. Complete the Study of Current Events Worksheet (handed out in class and liked here.)

   1. Bring your completed worksheet to our next class.
