Effective Meeting Planning and Facilitation

This PD module is designed for anyone who currently facilitates adult learning (via CPT, ILT, or school-wide professional development) and is interested in developing a deep understanding of effective facilitation practices as well as curating a robust facilitator’s tool kit. This session may also be beneficial for a team to attend together to build share understanding of what goes into effective meeting planning, facilitation, and participation.

Effective Facilitation Moves

• Hone your understanding of what effective facilitation looks like in practice by observing a facilitator and analyzing their moves using the “Facilitation Observation Tool” from The Art of Coaching Teams.
• Learn and apply five facilitation moves from The Facilitator’s book of questions (power of yet, clarifying questions, think time, helping each other listen, and paraphrasing).

Effective Facilitation of Looking at Student Work

• Brainstorm facilitation moves that you could make preemptively and mid-protocol to adjust in two facilitation scenarios
• Practice facilitating/engaging in one LASW protocol
  • Participants will facilitate or experience one of the following LASW protocols to name a learner-centered problem: Stack Audit, ATLAS, or unpacking a standard
• Participate in a “jigsaw” to debrief the three LASW protocols and discuss the intended purpose and potential facilitation challenges pertinent to that specific protocol
