What can a Student and/or Parent do if support is needed for any IB related Inquiry, Question, or Concern?
Parents and students are always welcome to email the IB Coordinator if there are any specific inquiries, questions, concerns, or to request an appeal of a specific decision that is directly related to the IB Diploma Program.
In instances where parents / students feel your inquiry was not addressed thoroughly by the IB Coordinator, or if a parent / student wishes to contend a decision made by the IB Coordinator, the issue will be brought to the IB Counsel.
The IB Counsel consists of the following five people:
IB Coordinator / Mr. Daniel Dobbe: ddobbe@amschool.org
High School Principal / Mr. Blake Swanson: bswanson@amschool.org
High School Assistant Principal / Mr. Roque Padilla: rpadilla@amschool.org
High School Counselor / Mrs. Yolanda Aviles / yaviles@amschool.org
High School Counselor / Mrs. Elizabeth Hernandez / ehernandez@amschool.org
The IB Counsel's decision, for each applicable request, is decided with a vote, after the issue has been clearly and thoroughly reviewed. A 3/5 (or greater) majority determines its decision. The specifics of how each member of the IB Counsel voted - regarding a specific issue, will not be shared with the parents or students.
If a parent / student wish to contest the decision by the IB Counsel, they can bring the issue to the Superintendent.
School Superintendent / Mrs. Liliana Jenkins: ljenkins@amschool.org
Regarding IB Results:
If the IB Marks awarded to a student seem way off or if a student feels it's important to contact the IB Organization to better understand his / her IB Results - what can a student do?
An Enquiry Upon Results can be requested by a student for a specific subject after the results are released in July, 2024.
This should only be done when the IB Mark awarded for a subject seems “way off” or if you just missed earning the IB Full Diploma and there is reason to believe a score in a particular subject, or two, should be rechecked.
Marks can go up, go down, or remain the same.
The cost per subject is $123 to find out and this must be paid to AST before August 1st of that summer. If it is found that your mark goes up, the IB Organization will reimburse you the $123.
It is important to know, student's IB marks can also go down after it is re-moderated. If this should happen, the new mark stands, no further action can be taken, and the student's family incurs the cost for the Inquiry Upon Results.
Mr. Dobbe (IB Coordinator) will assist students when these types of questions arise?
