Can IB students participate in the Senior Internship [the Senior Career Exploration Program]?
In accordance with practice in previous years and the expectations defined within the Student-Parent Handbook (p.12-13), how does a student know if he / she is eligible to participate in the Senior Career Exploration Program - starting in April 2023?
The dates of the Senior Career Exploration Program in this academic cycle will be from Monday, April 22nd through the end of Friday, May 10th.
Students who are eligible are the following:
Students who take two or less of the following IB classes:
Note: the exams for the IB courses listed below are scheduled to be taken before May 10th, 2024; this is the reason students taking two or less of these IB courses can be eligible for the Senior Career Exploration Program.
IB Physics SL
IB Business Management HL
IB Math Applications
IB Math Analysis SL
IB History of the Americas SL
IB Chemistry SL
IB English Language and Literature HL
IB Psychology SL
Students who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 80% by the end of the third quarter and are not failing the second semester for any class at the moment the career exploration program is set to start.
Students who have no suspensions in the current school year.
Students who have two or less detention in the current school year.
Students who have less than 40 period tardies cumulatively across the first three quarters.
Students who have less than 45 period absences (excused/unexcused) across the first three quarters [school activity absences are exempt from this tally].
In the past, students have worked in a variety of different settings: engineering, graphic design, medical practices, legal services, etc. We look forward to making the most out of the available experiences.
Note: Any 12th grade student, in good academic standing, who has 3 or more IB courses (in 12th grade) is eligible to focus solely on their IB course assessments in April and May. Thus, they are not required to participate in the Senior Career Exploration Program or attend non-IB courses from April 22nd to graduation.
