• IB Math Analysis and Approaches SL opens the door for students to attend quality / top-tier universities and to pursue a degree that requires a strong mathematical background.

• IB Math Analysis and Approaches SL and AP Calculus are equally respected by universities during the university application process.  

• In terms of applying math to real life situations, students with IB Mathematics are positioned to do this at a very high level. In the IB curriculum, IB Math courses are not divided into linear components, like we see in the US curriculum. Instead, the IB Math curriculum is continuously exposing students to the various components in math; this is done intentionally, as it tends to position students to be prepared to efficiently and successfully apply the math they have learned - when they begin tackling problems in university, and beyond, that do not focus on one specific component of mathematics.

• When the IB Organization switched its IB Math course offerings, AST initially only offered IB Math Application and Interpretations SL. During these two years, AST did offer a complimentary semester-long calculus course, but this only happened for two years. Now that we have Math Analysis and Approaches SL, we no longer need to offer a complimentary semester-long calculus course.

• It is not necessary for students in IB Math Analysis and Approaches SL to take an off campus / online AP Calculus course to be accepted to a top tier university - for any degree a student is pursuing.
