Greetings current 10th grade students and parents,

I will be helping students and parents better understand the IB Diploma program at AST; this is a process, and we will take all necessary steps - one step at a time.

Overview of IB Diploma program informational process / identified in six sections (below):

Section One (IB Courses Acceptance Requirements)

• The Acceptance requirements for incoming IB students (class of 2028) are up-to-date - for the class of 2028. 

• Students are encouraged to position themselves in a manner that provides options in the IB Diploma program; developing practices that lead to academic success needs to be an ongoing focus of attention.

• As a reference, please do take some time to look through our IB Diploma program at AST

Section Two (IB Sciences)

• As 10th grade students, please know you must be in Honors Biology - if you intend to take any of the IB Science courses.

• Please verify, with Ms. Oseguera, you are in the correct 10th grade Biology class; it will be either "10th grade Biology" or "10th grade Honors Biology."

• Students in 10th grade Physics are on track to be enrolled in IB Biology HL.

Section Three (Mandatory / Large Group Meetings)

• There are two mandatory large group meetings - for both students and parents.

• The date and time of the 1st of two large group meetings is Tuesday, January 27th, 2026, at 6:00 pm.

• The meeting will be done, via zoom.

• All 10th grade students and parents will be sent an invitation, via email.

• In April, 2026 we will have our 2nd of two large group meetings.

• This meeting is also for both the students and parents.

• The date and time has not yet been finalized.

• Once the date and time is confirmed, I will send all 10th grade students and parents an invitation, via email.

Section Four (Individual Support)

• In semester two, I will be available for individual meetings with students and parents.

Section Five (IB Gallery)

• In April, 2026, we will also have our IB Gallery.

• This event takes place after school on a day not yet determined.

• All current 9th and 10th grade students and parents will be invited.

• The IB Gallery provides an opportunity for students and parents to talk with our IB teachers, HS Counselors, and the IB Coordinator.

Section Six (Submission of IB application / registration form)

• After the 2nd large group meeting, students will be given a form that serves as their application to the IB courses they are interested in being enrolled in.

• The deadline to submit this form will be May 15th, 2026.
