Online Dachshund Epilepsy reporting and database launched

At our November 2015 Breed Council meeting it was agreed that we should establish an open, online registry of Dachshunds with epilepsy so that pedigree information would be available in the public domain. We know we have a problem with epilepsy in Mini Long Dachshunds compared with the other varieties (4% prevalence from all our surveys and 4 x higher than the other varieties). We are grateful to Dr. Clare Rusbridge and Dr. Holger Volk for their help with the design of this survey of epilepsy.

The data collection form for our online registry of Dachshunds with epilepsy will help us with our research into this condition. Please only use this form to submit a report on epilepsy diagnosed by a Veterinary Surgeon if you are a UK Dachshund breeder or owner. You can use this form to enter a report for ONE Dachshund. Please submit a new form for each additional Dachshund. Do not use this form to report Lafora Disease (there is already a separate survey of dogs with Lafora).

Your personal details will not be shared publicly. Details of your dog and its diagnosis will be shared in an online, open registry of Dachshunds diagnosed with epilepsy.

If you have a Dachshund diagnosed with epilepsy, please complete a report, here.
