Dachshund H&W Pet Advisors

The Breed Council's Health and Welfare Sub-Committee has invited Gill Key and Emma Newman to work with them as "Pet Advisors". It was felt that having pet owners' perspectives on health matters would add a useful dimension to our work (and give us two more pairs of hands to help out!).

Gill is the founder of the Lafora Dogs Support Group (www.laforadogs.org) and she has two Mini Wires, one of whom has Lafora Disease. Emma owns two Mini Longs and is about to embark on an Open University Genetics Course. Neither of them show or breed, and both have a strong interest in health matters.

We feel this will be a really helpful way for us to find new ways to get our H&W messages across to pet owners and also to get information from these owners. With our planned Breed Survey due to be launched for 2012, it is essential that we get as much involvement of Dachshund owners as we can, whether they breed, show, work or enjoy them as pets.

Contact details for Gill and Emma (e-mail addresses) are included on the H&W Sub-committee page of this site.
