GUIDELINES FOR SCORING DBQ ESSAYS IN BOND-LAMBERTY'S CLASS

(When doing so for a Grade from Bond-Lamberty)

Unless otherwise instructed (which you rarely if ever will be) use the Bond-Lamberty rubric and side of chart first, then the other.

Highlight and underline your thesis. Write “Thesis” in the right margin by it.

Bracket usage (it can just be the document # or some part of the usage, not all of it) and do so by bracketing only at the margin on the right. Write “Doc # 1” (or whichever number corresponds) in the right margin by it.

Highlight any document which you misinterpret. In the right margin write “Miss Meaning” or “MM.”

Highlight your POV. In the right margin write “POV #1” or whichever number corresponds.

Bracket groupings on the margin on the right. Write “Group #1” (or whichever number corresponds) in the right margin by it.

Highlight and underline Additional Documents. Write Add. Doc #1 (or whichever number corresponds) in the right margin by it.

Bracket any expanded core not already included above. Label it appropriate in the margin on the right.

For example:

_____This is the thesis, this is the thesis, this is the thesis. Thesis

I am using document #3, I am using document #3. } Doc #3

I have misinterpreted document #5, misinterpreted doc #5. MM

I am identifying point of view for document #2, yeah me! POV #2

These are all the documents in my first group, my

first group, my first group, these are the documents in my

first group oh goodie for me, oh goodie for me, what else is Group #1

there going to be, these are all the documents in my first

groups and that is all I have to say.

__This is me and my 3rd additional document, my 3rd additional_

__Document, this is me and my 3rd additional document, that __ Add Doc #3

__Nobody can deny.__

In the chart use a checkmark √ to indicate that something (like the thesis) meets your standard. Cross out with a simple slash mark ⁄ to indicate that they have either used the document or supported the thesis, POV, groupings, etc Underline if you wish to indicate that they at least attempted it (doesn’t affect grade though). If they have gained a point in for that category (thesis, POV, grouping, etc.) then write the number of points that they earned and circle it within the box of the category in the appropriate row.
