Cold War Rap
By: Dan “Danny-G” Greenwald, Ilya “Stalingrad” Karasin, Dayu “D-LU” Liu
Ilya karasin, well we just call him Stalingrad
Can whip out some rhymes that really aren't bad
In fact, he's the best rapping Russian we've ever had
He's talented, well-versed and psychologically mad
Now let me introduce you to another friend of mine
His name's Dayu Liu and he enjoys his rice wine
In fact this one time, when he was practicing his rhymes
He hit that stuff so hard his breath hit you like porcupines
But he stays away from ethanol; that stuff'll make you blind
Like Helen Keller on ice-skates better look out from behind
Cause he represents da AZN pride, Chinese power, belch, for life
He's Dayu Liu: the Mad Manchurian, all you other MC's don't stand a chance
Now listen while the D-Lu breaks through
And he captivates you with his rhythmic trance
With the introduction, of mutually assured destruction
And the construction of missiles with population reduction
As their primary function
You can't miss why the Russians were rushin’
To get missles for the purpose of crushin'
Now listen up, cause we're gonna start from the beginning and work you up
While Danny G. gets rough, with his caustic rhymes and fills you up
With his sublime (and very fine) rap stuff, which deals with the progression of time.
After WWII, we had just beat those cooks
With the aid of our nukes, and while the Ruskis and the Krauts
Were having it out, over Berlin we rushed to beat them down
To get more turf to spread democracy around
And at the same time we were allies, we were sendin' over spies, and telling lies
Tryin' to keep plans away from their eyes, because we didn't trust each other
Tried to disprove one another's economic preferences
And while we helped entrepreneurs
They transferred land to former serfs.
As the Soviets expanded, the allies demanded U.S. army aid
So we slapped NATO in their faces, and the Sovs retaliated
With the Warsaw Pact, creating a new military race
In 1949 the Russians got their first big a-bomb
With the Berlin Wall and ten-sion, we began to feel the heat
Then Mao Ze Dong took Chinaland, and beat Jiang Jie Shi to Taiwan
But with russian support he was impossible to beat.
So the commies took Korea and they marched from Pyonyang
And MacArthur took on Truman cause he wanted a big bang
Over China, who went and entered the war anyway
But we pushed them back and fought the war to a stale-mate
But we had less luck in Nam, because our strategy was wrong, and all we did was bomb
While the cong was napalmed
And after Tonkin gulf , it was a limited war
But even so the hippies screamed "Dudes, no more!
And we ended up losing, we withdrew from Indochina
After war atrocities that hurt our rep like angina
Back in the US McCarthy blew hot air
They pumped the social scene into the famous red scare
Commies everywhere! Commies everywhere! Commies everywhere!
Commies everywhere! Commies everywhere!
In the 1950's Nasser tried to nationalize
The Suez canal right in front of Britain's eyes
With Egypt's anti-western lean and Nasser's leftist ties
A potential global crisis was about to arise
And while the threat of world-wide war never materialized
And even though the West invaded and Egypt lost the fighting
The Suez was returned and widened the dividing
Between the new world superpower and the former empires.
The triple C P put the sputnik into space
For the US scientists it was a slap in the face
Which in turn instigated the entire space race
We launched the Mercury probes but by then it was to late
So we decided to send a few dudes to the moon
And put the ruskis' plans for space supremacy in ruins
Technologically we underwent a big boom
And developed bombs that could have been our undoin'.
Castro thought it'd be a good idea
To point some nukes at the US to allay his fears
But we found out and when the Russian ships were getting near
We blockaded the island and said "stop it right here!"
Well Russia took the hint and took their nukes away
And that's why we have western culture to this day
‘cause if we had both launched into a nuclear fray
I'm sorry to say, we'd have been dead anyway
Well the 3rd world nations wanted a place to fit in
Cause it's hard to be a communist with capitalist friends
So some of them non-aligned while others just gave in
Then some others got trouble with guerillas from within
In Latin America Uruguay and Panama, El Salvador, Peru and even Columbia
Had commie insurgencies while in Nicaragua
The capitalists tried to overthrow the commisars
While the US fought a senseless losing war in Nam
The soviets had to pull out of Afghanistan
The tried to install a government to handle their plans
But they got driven back by the Taliban
Wait, didn't those guys bomb Uncle Sam?
After osama got kicked out of Sudan?
Yeah, but back then they were our allies, man
It's hard to visualize how this all began.
But gradually the system started to unwind
The pressure of the people and the US combined
To shut down the Russians after all this time
The USSR dissolved and the cold war was behind
The Berlin wall fell and though the Reds still exist
Their feelings on democracy and money are mixed
The threat of Russia's nukes was pretty much nixed
And the nice thing about it all is that we win.
