Next week are our formative exams, which are a chance for you to do a practice run of the final exam, and to become familiar with its format. This year the exams will be all online, but the listening exam will still be a very straightforward short talk (given by someone you might recognise) followed by some comprehension checking questions and a summary writing task. Full details are on the listening assessment page. The preparation tasks below give you an idea of the level and complexity. The live session this week can be used to discuss the assessment or, perhaps more interestingly, for you to run your own listening activities for your peers as outlined at the end of last term.
How would you summarise the lecture in one sentence?
Share your notes from page 3 of the preparation materials:
What are the Myers Briggs personality types that Rich discusses?
What does he have to say about family businesses?
What does Richard say about how you should look if you want to be successful in business?
What four suggestions does Professor Richard Wiseman give for improving luck?
Share the 150 word summary that you wrote on the section of business culture or practice on a Padlet.
According to Rich's talk, would the factors involved in success outlined on the left be more connected to nature or nurture.
Who are the most well-known business leaders of the modern age, and what do you think has made them successful?
How have the qualities needed to run a business well changed over the last 30 years?
How do business leadership styles vary across cultures?
What part of Rich's talk could be questioned/which parts did you find less convincing?
