Financial Support for Research

The majority of PGR students in Biology are supported by UK Research Councils, Charities, home Governments, Industry etc and will have consumables funds built into their awards.

Where students are entirely self-funded, ie from their own pocket, the Department has a small fund from which it may be able to offer financial support for the research project. Awards are applied for by the supervisor(s) at the time of application.

Consumable budgets will be assigned an “A code”, this is a unique budget code number which you can spend against through discussion with your supervisor.

You will be sent monthly financial reports and provided with training in how to interpret the reports and track spending. It is very important that the budget is not overspent.
