Departmental seminars and research fora

Research in the Department of Biology is arranged around 9 different foci. These represent different clusters of expertise, methodology and application domains. Members of the academic staff may be associated with more than one foci.

As a researcher, you may find certain labs hold joint group meetings reflecting the synergies of their research. The foci also serve as a community for the development and peer review of research proposals, prior to submission to external funding agencies.

The Foci

Research in the Department of Biology

There are numerous research seminar series that are associated with the department. These cover most of the research foci; some are highly interdisciplinary and serve cross-departmental communities. These are important events for you, as developing researchers. You will be exposed to research from speakers including guest (national and some international visitors) and local speakers (academic staff, post-docs and research students). You may get an opportunity to speak at one of the events yourself. It’s a great opportunity to meet people and to develop your professional network.

The timings vary, many run weekly through the (undergraduate) terms, but some are less frequent or irregular.
