Sick leave: Short term illnesses do not normally require any change to deadlines and are dealt with by self-certification or doctor’s notes [link to page]. More extensive illnesses can necessitate a leave of absence [link to page] in which case extensions to deadlines occurs. Some funders (e.g. RCUK studentships) give out paid sick leave (13 weeks in case of RCUK). If funded by other means you will need to check with your funder to see if they provide paid sick leave.
