WJEC AS/A2 Art & Design

AS Course Content:

Unit 1 - Personal Creative Enquiry (40%)

• internally assessed, externally moderated

• An extended, exploratory project with outcomes based on themes and subject matter which are personal and meaningful to the learner. The Enquiry must integrate critical, practical and theoretical work.

A2 Course Content:

Unit 2 - Personal Investigation (36%)

• internally assessed, externally moderated

• Consists of two integrated parts:

  • Part 1. A major in-depth critical, practical and theoretical investigative project with outcomes based on themes and subject matter that have personal significance.

• Part 2. An extended written element of 1000 words minimum, which may contain images and texts and must clearly relate to practical and theoretical work using an appropriate working vocabulary and specialist terminology.

Unit 3 - Externally Set Assignment (24%)

• internally assessed, externally moderated

• Consists of two parts:

  • Part 1: Preparatory study period.

  • Part 2: 15 hour period of sustained focus work.

Recommended Entry Requirements and Additional Relevant Information:

• Minimum entry level GCSE Grade B in Art/Design.

• A good and independent work ethic is essential in this practical work based subject.
