'Late' Applications for Sixth Form September 2025 are being accepted
The motto of Ysgol Harri Tudur/Henry Tudor School: “Learners First” is especially pertinent to our Sixth Form values and a quality recognised by ESTYN. I invite all students to share in that vision and challenge yourselves to succeed with our support.
We are very proud of all our students, they develop into young people with great integrity and contribute much to the community of the school.
Mrs Helen McMillan BSc (Hons), PGCE
Leader of Key Stage 5 & Teacher of Health & Well-Being
Life after Year 11 is changing rapidly. It is very competitive, especially in terms of further and higher education, employment and training. Adaptability is the key. You need to develop whatever skills and talents you have and be prepared to grasp opportunities as they arise. Becoming a member of the Sixth Form means you have chosen to take on the challenge.
Ysgol Harri Tudur/Henry Tudor School Sixth Form will provide you with the right atmosphere in which to mature and develop the wide-ranging skills needed for the complex world outside. Your teachers know you personally and understand your potential and are equally welcoming of new Sixth Form students to the school. They will monitor your work closely and discuss your progress with you on a regular basis.
The aim of this prospectus is to give you the information you need to make an informed choice about the appropriate level of course, type of course, the type of assessment and the qualifications you will gain. You should think very carefully now about your career plans and what you need to achieve them. Current Year 11 students should speak to their Mentors and Careers Officers and teaching staff if they need further advice, whilst prospective students are encouraged to contact the Sixth Form Office - sixthform@yht.wales.
I have to say how exceptionally proud I am of our Sixth Form and how pleased I am that their efforts in the various roles they undertake at the school, for the benefit of younger pupils and to develop their own abilities and experiences, was recognised in our 2018 HMI visit.
Whilst there is always an expectation that schools will seek to raise standards at Post-16, in line with our own school mantra of ‘good is never good enough’, we are very pleased by the positive comments which the Inspectors made, both verbally and in the published report. I am particularly pleased by a conversation I had with Inspectors in which the Sixth Form were praised as being a credit to the school, a point with which I whole-heartedly agree.
For the information of prospective students and their parents I have included below some references to the Sixth Form from the ESTYN report:
Sixth form pupils are positive role models for younger pupils, particularly through their work as prefects and peer mentors.
The average wider points score and the percentage of pupils gaining three A*-C grades remain above those in similar schools.
The school provides beneficial activities for more able pupils, through activities such as visits to universities, the ‘Seren’ and ‘Seren Fach’ networks and the ‘Brilliant Scholars’ programme.
The school makes productive use of links with universities and employers. These links provide pupils with worthwhile experiences that help prepare them for further education and adult life.
The proportion of sixth form pupils gaining three A*-A grades has improved over the last two years.
The school provides a wide range of beneficial vocational courses. The school’s valuable partnership work with the local college and other schools means that there is an extensive range of academic and vocational qualifications in the sixth form.
