Levitation- the action of rising or causing something to rise and hover in the air, typically by means of supposed magical powers.
Paranormal- denoting events or phenomena such as telekinesis or clairvoyance that are beyond the scope of normal scientific understanding.
Paragraph 1
When taking/making successful levitation photographs, it is important to remember a few things. For one, it is important to take two pictures, one with the subject, and one without. If you use a different photo for the background, you have to make sure the lighting is similar in both the subject's picture and the background. Another important thing to remember is the shadows. To make something look realistic, there needs to be shadows, so it is important to add them to the final product. Also, you have to zoom in a lot and make sure that the details are sharp, and that you erase the correct parts. Also, make sure that there are no indents on the clothing from the object that the subject is on if they are supposed to be "in the air". This is so that it looks like they are actually floating, and not just laying on something.
Paragraph 2
The examples below I thought were cool. The first two are more ethereal, while the third one looks more realistic and "normal". I liked them because of the sharpness and how almost subtle the levitation was, while still looking really cool. In my Photoshop levitation photos, I want to make a mix of realistic and fantastical photos. I want to take a normal situation and make it impossible. I want to work with shadows to make it as seamless as I can, and I will probably create some floating photos. Overall, I will let the creativity come to me and we can see where it goes!

My Photos:
"At Water Level"
Chelsea Leblanc
"Defying Gravity" Stumayhew
"Laugh" Paige Brewer
This was me just testing out levitating objects, and I did ok, but the shadow doesn't have much depth and isn't very convincible. I definitely think that I have improved since now, and I just wanted to practice with this one. I also didn't have the best quality photographs, and it was hard to trace out the subject.
"Books" Paige Brewer
This was a first try at levitating objects, and I chose to do my friend levitating over a table looking at books, and I think it came out really, really cool. I think it all looks pretty good except for the shadow, which looks a little unrealistic. If I can perfect that I think that this photo would be pretty seamless!
"Perch" Paige Brewer
This is my 3rd try at levitation photos, and I think that this one is my most believable/best one. I really like how it is still a believable circumstance, but it never happened. In the original photo, they were sitting on the bench below. I like how I made the shadows, and I thought it would be a cool photoshop idea.
"Dunk" Paige Brewer
My friend Bryn wanted to be in one of the photoshop fun images, and we worked together to come up with this idea. The basketball hoops were up, so we had to get creative. Overall this is my favorite and was really fun.
"Bleachers" Paige Brewer
My other friend, Poloma, also wanted to be in one of these images. I hadn't done one like this and I thought the bleachers were the perfect spot for it. I wish the lighting was a little dimmer, but it was fun to mess around with.
The visual levitation photography examples in class inspired me through the different positions the subjects were in and the lighting. I especially liked the more realistic ones in daily life, with a little bit of flair added. They inspired my choices by giving me a lot more to think about and take into account while making my photos, like lighting, details, and different poses.
My favorite levitation Photoshop image is the one of my friend, Bryn, diving into the basketball hoop in the gym ("Dunk"). I liked this one because it was the most expressive and fun one that I did. I also think that the angle was cool, and the mood was just relaxed and fun. The action is Bryn in the air, and I think that the lightings match up and it is pretty seamless. It was also fun using the different effects, like the smudge effect, to emphasize the movement.
My photo of Laila above the chair ("Laugh") has weaknesses and strengths, but I think more weaknesses, haha. The ways that it is strong, for example, are the lighting being the same and the little shadow practices. The weaknesses, or things that I would change, are a little more plentiful. I would be more careful while outlining her, and make the shadows more details. I would also get a better angle for both of the shots. Overall, I think I could make this one more realistic if I took my time.
