The rules and limitations stretched my creative processes in many ways. Even if I had an idea for something and wanted to add it onto somebody else’s collage, if it didn’t align with the criteria for that part of the process, then I would have to think of something else. I also had to think about what the original artist might have had in mind for the collage, and take that into consideration. If I wanted to add stars or a circles, but it wouldn’t match the original artist’s taste, then should I really do it? If not, I would have to be creative and think of something else. There was also a time crunch to consider, making getting something on the collage a creative process in it's own!
Working in conjunction with another’s creative decisions makes me think even more about the intentions of what I am putting on a piece of art. I cannot just put something mindless on there, I have to think about what the other artist was wanting to do with their piece, and maybe adjust from there. I also had to think about what to do and use when talking about my own collage. It took a lot of thinking, but ultimately I had to decide whether I wanted to keep or maybe cover others’ art on my collage. It changed my decisions and made me go a whole other route with my collage, and I still ended up covering a lot of the previous work!
This project might impact my work in the future in a few different ways. For one, I will think about what others will think when they look at my work, and not just through my eyes. I might also be curious about what others would do to change my work, because there were definitely ideas in the collage process that pushed my thinking and made me be more creative. I will also think about using new mediums in different ways, after seeing everybody use them in unique ways in their own collages.
