I feel really good about the work on my portfolio. I know that some of the pieces, like maybe the whale piece or the bee piece aren’t my favorite. I also know that I put a lot of effort into every piece, and learned a lot from each one. I had so much fun using different media and just being able to experiment, which is something that I wouldn’t really have time for or gravitate towards if I had not taken this class. I know that sometimes I got frustrated for example with the linoleum printing, but that frustration challenged me and made me more versatile and skilled because of it. I also really did like my inquiry so it made it easier for me to stay engaged in my work. Being able to get feedback from peers and teachers made all of the processes a lot smoother and really changed pieces for the better, like my chimpanzees when lightening the face. I have loved taking this class and being part of this little family that we have created!
I have grown as an artist as a result of creating this body of work in many ways. For example, I became more familiar with different media, such as pastels, inks, watercolors, and printing. I have become more resilient and take criticism better, because of all of the feedback that I have received this year. I have become more skilled in using different brush strokes and styles even just with acrylics. For example, my bison and ravens are very different stylistically. I have learned the value of planning and gotten pretty good at planning out pieces and have really noticed the importance of that. Although Georgia Tech doesn’t offer an art minor, I am planning on still taking art classes and being involved in art clubs and activities. And of course I will be doing more art this summer. I hope to work with ceramics more and try oil paints.
