Two of the most important concepts I learned this semester-
The two most important concepts I have learned this semester are Perspective and Value. These are shown in the images below of some of my art this semester. These are very important to my art because, without them, nothing would look realistic at all. When you look at the hand drawing, value self-portrait, woman drawing, and the controlled scribble still-life, you see value in the art. There is scribbling, hatching, shades, and tints that are all used to create value in these pieces. It is to show shadows but also to make the art look 3-dimensional and realistic. This leads to the perspective aspect of art that has impacted my pieces greatly. Perspective is so important when it comes to drawing, and also painting. While I did not use perspective too much in painting this semester, as part of the drawing aspect it was a huge part of my improvement. After you learn how to draw with one-point perspectives or two-point perspectives, you are able to make things not only look 3D but also physically accurate. In the one-point perspective of a room and the still-life drawing nothing would look accurate and 3-Dimensional without Perspective. These are the reasons why Perspective and Value are the most important concepts I have learned in Art Fundamentals this semester.
The assignment that I am the proudest of-
The assignment that I am the proudest of has to be my Final Still Life drawing. I am most proud of this because it has had the most growth throughout the unit. From the first pre-instructional drawing (left) to the Final Still Life (right), there is clearly a great amount of improvement. I am also proud of this because it uses a lot of the concepts we learned about; value, controlled scribbles, perspective, and organizational lines. There is a lot included in this drawing and I believe that it looks pretty realistic. I had to work a lot to make my scribbles not too had/dark because I had done that many times in the other practice drawings. I also had to work on actually drawing the scribbles because they were just circles, lines, or other things and not really scribbles or relaxed. This project had a large impact on my learning. The Final Still Life has impacted my perspective, value, and controlled scribbling skills and it helped me get organized and showed me how to even look at the still life to get the most accurate drawing. Now, after this drawing, I am able to use so many more concepts and higher-level drawing skills during this project. Overall, my Final Still Life drawing has improved my drawing skills greatly and has shown a lot of growth over the semester making it the project I am the more proud of.
