To understand how a line can be used to create a three-dimensional form
To create a sculpture that considers balance and repetition, variety and emphasis
To consider where artists find their inspiration
Variety is defined as attributes that make a piece more interesting. I believe that I created variety in the different sizes of the loops and the different shapes made when they intersect. This helps create a negative space where the two loops intersect by leaving an open hole. To show emphasis, I added a paper layer over the middle loop of my sculpture. While I was building it I knew that the loop would be the point of emphasis but I wanted to accentuate it by adding paper over it.
I learned a lot about sculpting and sculptures over the course of this unit. For example, I used to think that the only way to sculpt was with clay or wood. However, I found out first hand that a sculpture is more loosely defined. Sculptures can be made out of anything that creates a 3-D shape. I had never even considered doing 3-D art before this project and I found it deeply relaxing. I think part of why I enjoyed it so much was because I loved how I could shape the sculpture in any way I wanted. I had a vague idea that I wanted it to have a lot of loops and I think I successfully showed this. One of my favorite parts of my sculpture is that it’s smaller than the rest which makes it stand out.
