Mathematics Subjects
Years 9 & 10
Brendon Cant
Mathematics is the universal language used by everyone, everywhere.
Mathematics provides students with the opportunity to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in numeracy and working mathematically. Students have the opportunity to develop increasingly sophisticated and refined mathematical understanding, fluency, communication, reasoning, analytical thought and problem-solving skills. These capabilities enable students to respond to familiar and unfamiliar situations by employing strategies to make informed decisions and solve problems relevant to their present and future needs.
Yr 9 Mathematics - Numeracy
This pathway explores the basic Mathematical concepts of Measurement, Finance, Probability & Statistics, and Algebra & Equations. Numeracy looks at consolidating basic maths skills needed to be an active participant in society.
Subject Code: 09MAT_Numeracy
Prerequisites & Limitations: Students who need to select Yr 9 Mathematics - Numeracy will be identified by their teacher.
Suitability: Students who have not attained Stage 4 outcomes or students needing to develop and consolidate functional numeracy skills. Students who are studying the Life Skills curriculum need to enrol in Yr9 Mathematics - Numeracy. This pathway prepares students to study Mathematics Numeracy or Mathematics Standard at Stage 6.
