Languages Other Than English (LOTE)

In the LOTE domain, students have the opportunity of studying French Beginners or French Continuers.

Learning a language will significantly expand students' horizons about the personal, social, cultural and employment opportunities that our increasingly interconnected and globalised world will make available to them in the near future. Students will also acquire communication skills that will enable them to interact in French and develop a deep understanding and appreciation of the relationship between language, culture and learning.

In order to study French Beginners, no previous study of the language is required, or if a student only studied French in Year 8, they would also qualify for this course. Students who have studied French for at least 2 years, would be best suited to select French Continuers.

For either course, it is highly recommended that students have an intense interest in French language and culture. Both courses prepare students for further study in language, government (national and international), tourism, media, commerce or international studies courses at university and other tertiary institutions.

Communication with native speakers of French and cultural visits to francophone related sites will be offered to students of French in Stage 6.

The study of this subject, French as one of the most popular languages in the world, will lead you to lifelong personal, educational, vocational and career benefits.
