Beach field hockey had another awesome victory on Tuesday evening against Lindenhurst! The girls scored early in the first quarter. The first girl was scored from an assist from captain Giada Zegarelli to 7th grader Caitlin Dewitt who was on the post waiting for an opportunity to “cherry pick”. The second goal was also assisted by Giada Zegarelli, this time to 8th grader Adrianna Klos. The third unanswered goal was from captain Leah Antippas from a hard hit from the center of the circle! Lindenhurst only scored one goal against Beach, making the final 3-1! This was a huge victory because Beach has only lost one game this season and that was their first game of the season against Lindenhurst! What a sweet redemption win! And now, brought to you by the Diversity Club is this week’s last “FUN FACT FRIDAY'' in celebration of Global Diversity month:

Did you know, throughout the world, there are major differences between cultures and their unique cultural norms and beliefs. While something may be the way of life in a certain place, it can be considered impolite in another place. For example, in some South-East Asian countries, slurping loudly is a compliment to the chef, in Tanzania people are expected to be at least 15 minutes late for all dinner plans and anyone who arrives on time is considered rude, and in some places of the world, such as Japan, tipping people is seen in a bad light. What cultural norms and beliefs do we have as a society? How might they differ from other countries?

This October we will be celebrating Global Diversity Month, which recognizes different cultures and helps us to gain new perspectives.

To acknowledge this month, The Diversity & Acceptance Club will be announcing a diversity "fun fact" every Friday, in addition to promoting inclusion and connection throughout the school.

For our first FUN FACT FRIDAY...

Did you know that traditions are what keep cultures alive throughout generations? Some traditions may sound strange, yet people hold them close to their hearts because they provide a sense of belonging and meaning to their lives.

One example of a popular tradition is "Yi Peng" which is a festival celebrated in Thailand, where you will see thousands of beautiful lanterns floating up in the sky. It is part of the tradition to make a wish before the lanterns are released. The festival takes place on the full moon of the 12th Thai month (usually November).

Take this time to think about some of the special traditions that you or your family have and why they are important to you!

At the end of the pep rally, Mr. O’Farrell will dismiss each grade one at a time.  Your teacher will bring you back into the building and you will go back to your 9th period class and to your locker for dismissal.  Each grade will have a designated entrance to use to come back into the building.

Yesterday in a rain soaked windy afternoon the Beach Street Football Lions opened their season by defeating the Bulldogs of Lindenhurst by a score of 35-0.  The Lions kept moving the chains getting first downs which led to scoring opportunities.  On the defensive side of the football the Lions often had two or three of their players making tackles allowing only 4 first downs for the Bulldogs during the entire contest.  This was a total team event and each player should be congratulated for their performance.  Coach's Luvera and Osburn are proud of our players performance but we still have work to do.  We get better each day keep working.
