Congratulations to our 7th & 8th grade band and orchestra on their outstanding performances at this weekend’s Long Island Music Festival! The groups returned to West Islip with two Superior rating trophies! Well done!
On Friday, the Beach Softball team finished off their season with an exciting 1-0 win over crosstown rivals Udall. The game was an exciting pitcher's duel, with Camryn Mariano shutting down the Udall bats, while the Beach bats almost broke through on several occasions. Finally, in the 6th inning with the score tied, Alexa Reale led off with an infield single, stole 2nd, and was driven in by Camryn Mariano's clutch 2 strike single. Sophia Bahm and Bradynn Alessi both made solid defensive plays to preserve the shut out and the win. The entire team had a great game and finished the season 8-2. Congratulations girls!

Yesterday, the Beach softball team improved their record to 7-2 with a 15-0 win over Copaigue. Anna Curley had 2 hits and 4 stolen bases to help pace the offense. Gabi Menken reached base all 5 times she batted, and Mary Jane Grill scored 3 runs. All of the girls had another great game.

Elizabeth T. McNamee was a West Islip High School graduate who passed away due to a heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). As a tribute to Elizabeth’s memory we anticipate the help and donations of the West Islip community. This drive will take place from now through May 24, 2019.

Yesterday afternoon, the girls lacrosse team defeated Northport Middle School 14-12. Yesterday, the Beach Softball team won their fourth straight game, dominating Lindenhurst during an 11-4 victory. Gabi Menken and Camryn Mariano kept the opposition off balance pitching all day, striking out a combined 14 batters. In the first inning, the Lady Lions raced out to a 7-0 lead, highlighted by Cam Mariano's and Makayla Comer's home runs. Amanda Schneider, Bradynn Alessi, and Alexa Reale all had multiple hits and played a great defense throughout the game, and all of the girls made excellent contributions to the victory. Great job girls.

Attention 8th grade students attending the NYC Aladdin field trip on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. The bus lists are posted in the cafeteria and in the main office. Please make sure you check the list so you know who your chaperone is and you know what group and bus number you are assigned to. On Thursday May 9th The Beach Street Select Chorus will be singing the Star Spangled Banner on the field at the start of the Long Island Duck's Game. It was a super Saturday as the boys volleyball team defeated West Babylon in all five games. Scores were 25-17, 25-20, 25-9, 25-17, and 25-20. The team displayed some of their finest skills in passing, setting, and spiking. Way to go Beach Street!

Congratulations to Abby Narra and Katie Callaghan. They attended the 29th Annual Legislative Student Art Exhibit in Albany, New York, where their artwork is on display. The artists got to meet with Senator Boyle and Assemblyman LiPetri and had a tour of the Legislative buildings. The girls attended the artists reception at the Long Island Museum in Stony Brook this weekend, where their artwork will be on display until April 7th. Yesterday, January 10th, 2019, after school, in our own Beach Street auditorium, history was made when the Beach Street Geography Club held its' 15th annual National Geographic Geography Bee. An all star stellar cast of contestants participated in what can only be described as the greatest collection of students taking part in the most difficult, challenging and exciting Geography Bee to have ever taken place in our school. Special mentions go out to; Julius Mendez, Bobby Owens, Michael Washington, Shane Marshall, Bryce Olsen, and Alex Prokopiou. Splitting third place this year was, April Allegretto, Julia Kennedy, Markos Prokopiou and Eugene Ditaranto. Taking second place was Alex Gangloff. And for the third year in a row at Beach Street, 8th grader, Keston Hartman has won this year's National Geographic Geography Bee. Keston also won in 5th grade at Paul J. Bellew. This make Keston Hartman the most winningest geography bee champion in the history of the entire West Islip School District. Keston Hartman is a true champion and we are so proud of him. Congratulations, Keston! And, congratulations to all of this years participants. You represented our school with class and distinction and you all demonstrated true Beach Street Pride! Congratulations!

Today is the big day: The Beach Street Geography Club will be holding their annual National Geographic Geography Bee today after school in the auditorium at 3pm. All geography bee participants should arrive by 2:50 and the Bee will start at 3pm sharp. This event is open students and family that would like to attend and cheer on their classmates as they take on this great challenge this afternoon. The start of the New Year turned out well for the girls' volleyball team. Beach Street defeated Bay Shore in all five games yesterday 25-8, 25-23, 25-12, 25-21, and 25-7. This Thursday, the girls have an away game against Udall at 4 pm.

What a thriller! After being defeated in the first two games 10-25, and 20-25, the girls volleyball team came back to win game three 29-27, game four 25-19, and clinching the fifth and deciding game 25-20. Beach Street volleyball defeats North Babylon to keep an undefeated record 4-0. The next home game is this Saturday at 9 am against West Babylon.

The girls volleyball team traveled to Central Islip yesterday and had a very successful outcome. The girls won the first four games 25-13, 25-11, 25-17, and 25-8. The first home game will be November 11 at 4:15 pm.

All are welcomed to join the West Islip Beautification Society in decorating the town with wreaths and bows for the holiday on Saturday, November 24th at 10:00 am. Complimentary refreshments (bagels, doughnuts, egg sandwiches, tea, coffee, hot chocolate) will be provided by our generous local merchants. Service community hours will be awarded. Lamp posts may be decorated in memory of a loved one. Meet at Dorothe Karwoski Memorial Garden across from Best Market at the intersection of Higbie Lane and Udall Road. The girls soccer team earned a well fought, well played, 3-3 tie against Udall to end the season. Final record was 4 wins, 4 losses, and 2 ties. Goals against Udall were scored by Holly Bellini, Sarah Mitchell and Bree Brower. The defense, backed by goalies Lauren LaMorte and Ella Iacono was outstanding all season, breaking up many offensive opportunities by opponents. Great season girls!!! Also, Please be sure to turn in your blue uniforms, washed, in the box outside Mrs. Cain's office by tomorrow. When you drop it in the box, please check off your name from the list on the window.

Attention, All Beach Street Students and Faculty! It is that time of year again where Beach Street comes together to give thanks and give back! With Thanksgiving around the corner, we have officially begun our Thanksgiving Food Drive to help families in need throughout our community. The Helping Hands Club is collecting Thanksgiving related non-perishable goods in the bin in the main lobby, starting today! Donations such as canned fruits and vegetables, boxed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and cake mix, are some examples of what we are looking to collect. We sincerely appreciate your contribution; every donation truly makes a difference!!

The boys’ soccer team defeated Elwood yesterday 3 to 2. With the score tied at 2 with 3 minutes left Jack McEnaney crossed a direct kick to Rocco Carpinello for the game winning goal. It was Rocco's 2nd goal of the game. Stephen Trama also added a goal in the 4th period. The win was an entire team effort. The boys finish their season on Saturday at Udall at 10 am. Come out and support the boys!
Attention all students interested in entering the Halloween Costume Contest: Please listen carefully! Again, all students interested in entering the Halloween costume contest. Judging will take place during all lunch periods today for the individual categories: funniest, scariest, and homemade, most creative. At lunch, slips of paper labeled with the categories will be available. You will write your name and costume on the slip of paper. That slip will be given to the judges - Mr. Luquer and Ms. Crowley. They will observe your costume and take your picture. The wall will be down so you will be able to see where to get the slips and listen to all directions - as well as enjoy viewing all the cool costumes. Please behave appropriately.

On Wednesday afternoon the Beach Street Football Lions traveled to Lindenhurst to take on the Bulldogs. The Lions performed masterfully on both offense and defense. Offensively the Lions where able to score 26 points while gaining 214 yards. The Lions played stingy defense only giving up 7 points and allowing the Bulldogs to only gain 84 yards during the contest. The win brings the Lions current record 2-2. Each member of our team should be congratulated for a superb team effort. The Lions next contest will be Monday October 29th home at 4:00 PM against the Eagles of West Babylon.

The girls soccer team played 3 games in a row, improving their record to 4-2-1 with wins against Murphy and Great Hollow Red, and a tie against Nesaquake. Against Murphy, the final score was 1-0 with Nicole DeCanio scoring on a penalty shot. Against Great Hollow Red, the final was 2-1 in overtime. Goals were scored by Holly Bellini unassisted and by Amanda Dolan, assisted by Breeann Brower, and Gabby LaDonna. In the 1-1 tie against Nesaquake, Holly Bellini was able to tip one in off of a pass from Sarah Mitchell. Our next home game is Friday at 4:15 against Seneca. On Saturday the Beach Street Football Lions earned their first win of the season by defeating Brentwood White by a score of 42-6. This was a dominant offensive and defensive effort by the Lions. The offense racked up 268 yards of total offense and the defense only gave up one touchdown. Great game Boys. The Lions next home game is going to be at Udall Road MS tomorrow October 17 at 4:00PM. Please come support your team.

The Beach field hockey team has experienced great improvement and success in their last three games beating Moses, Babylon and West Babylon. Goals have been scored by Jaimey Hill, Madison Jacobs Avery Lanzarotta and Emma Carangi. Assists have been made by Olivia Genovese, Jaimey Hill and Layla Gutierrez. The amazing defense led by Jewel Boyle, Makayla Comer Victoria Cusamano, Julia Vassallo and Sophia Colonna stops these teams in their tracks. The Boys soccer team defeated Kings Park yesterday 1 to 0. With less than a minute to go in the game Jake McEnaney scored on a direct kick from 25 yards out for the game winner. Joey Washington was outstanding in goal. The win was an entire team effort. Congratulations on a great win.

Football Toss - one 6th, one 7th, and one 8th grader will compete against each other for the most footballs thrown through a hula-hoop in 15 seconds.
30 Second Dance Off - 3 students (any grade level) will dance to a randomly chosen song by the DJ for 30 seconds. The student council executive board will select the winner. Oh, and we'll have two teachers complete against each other, so encourage those teachers to participate!
Money Scooter Scoop - one 6th, one 7th, and one 8th grader will be blind-folded on a scooter and have 30 seconds to scoop up as much real money as they can. Of course there will be lots of fake money mixed in. Will you be the one to scoop up the $50 bill?!
Hungry, Hungry Hippo using a Scooter : 2 6th grade students , 2 7th grade students , 2 8th grade students, and 2 teachers will race around in circle-shaped court will try to capture as many plastic objects using a basket. The team with the most objects wins.
All winners receive gifts cards - except for the money scoop. All raffles to enter these games will be sold at lunch Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week! Raffles are only 25 cents each or 5 for $1.00! Good luck!

Early winter sport sign ups are now taking place in your PE class. Grade seven and eight students may sign up for Girls competitive cheer, girls volleyball, and boys basketball. The varsity bowling team is looking for competitive bowlers to tryout for the team. See Mrs. Cain, Mr. Klimkoski, or Miss Reilly for further questions.
Jazz Band Auditions will be held before and after school on Monday, September 24th. Anyone interested must sign-up for an audition time outside the band room and see Mr. Smith for audition music.

Attention all Beach St. students looking to take part in this year's production of Mary Poppins Jr. Auditions will be held Monday after school in the auditorium until 5 PM. Everyone interested should go to Mr. DeMaio's website and complete the audition form. Other important information can be found there as well.
