Crème Brulee Dishes

These shallow ceramic dishes are perfect for mealworms, and are always needed by the hospital. The dishes are low enough that the birds can see the worms moving, but slick enough that the worms cannot crawl out. They are about 4.5" diameter and about 1" deep. The brown dish on the left is from Safeway Select Crème Brulee, available in the frozen food section. Each package contains two mealworm dishes filled with super-scrumptious crème brulee, emptying the dishes for hospital use is usually no problem. Since these can accumulate with fine dessert lovers, you can sometimes find whole stacks of them at thrift stores. Let us know if you find any other good and inexpensive sources.

Grocery Outlet occasionally carries creme brulee that comes in a 6-pack of mealworm dishes for a reasonable price. The dishes slope in a little at the top, making it more difficult for the mealworms to crawl out. If you like creme brulee, we’ll take the dishes...win/win.
